On Thu. June 22 2017, the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) held its fourth meeting at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Guynn Savage spoke about a request currently pending before the RFATS Policy Committee to resurrect study of a third river crossing between Rock Hill and Fort Mill. While Mayor Savage acknowledged that there was an issue on the Rock Hill side of the river at the Celanese Road interchange (exit 82), she illustrated the adverse impact that such a project would have on traffic volumes in the Fort Mill-Tega Cay area.
Following the bridge discussion, Assistant Planner Diane Dil gave a brief overview of the outreach efforts that had taken place during the month of June. Assistant Planner Dil stated that town staff and the COG had met with a total of 8 stakeholder groups. A public drop-in meeting was held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tues. June 13th at Fort Mill Middle School. Approximately 40 people attended the meeting. In addition, the community survey had received close to 1,700 responses as of the meeting date.
Following Assistant Planner Dil's overview, the CPAC broke out into its three subcommittee groups: Land Use, Transportation & Housing; Cultural Resources, Natural Resources & Public Health; and Economic Development & Community Facilities. Each subcommittee reviewed preliminary feedback from the community survey, and began discussion of overarching goals for the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
The next meeting of the CPAC is scheduled for Thu. July 27, 2017, at 6:30 PM. The meeting will take place at Unity Presbyterian Church (303 Tom Hall Street).
